Laboratory assistants work with chemicals, computer-aided measuring devices and sensitive equipment. They know analytical methods such as titration and spectroscopy and apply them practically. They carry out syntheses and develop new substances. They calculate, weigh, separate, mix, purify and distill. Using suitable methods such as various chromatographies or the melting point, they assess the purity of the samples or the content of ingredients.
Precise, systematic and hygienically perfect work is essential to achieve meaningful results. They assess the test procedure and comply with the regulations on occupational safety, environmental protection and quality assurance. All laboratory tests are correctly recorded.

Training in the company
The apprenticeship lasts 3 years. Blaser Swisslube trains laboratory assistants with an analytical background. In our modern and generously equipped laboratories you will get to know the profession from the ground up with our professionals. During the apprenticeship, you will work in various departments such as customer service, test laboratory, analytics and research and development. In addition, you will learn and deepen the basic training in the company’s own teaching laboratory.
Technical teaching at the vocational school
During the entire apprenticeship period, you will attend the vocational school in Bern for 1½ days. At the beginning of the training there is an introductory course lasting several weeks so that you can acquire the basics for working in the laboratory.
Career prospects
After the basic training, you can complete the vocational baccalaureate, a higher technical examination or continue your education at the University of Applied Sciences for a bachelor’s degree.
