Clean machines, stable processes: HOMA optimizes production thanks to Blaser Swisslube
HOMA is confident in continuing the partnership with Blaser Swisslube.
Odor issues, inconsistent service life, and worsening tool wear presented HOMA Pumpenfabrik GmbH with challenges in machining. Together with Blaser Swisslube, a test was initiated with the B-Cool MC 640 CI metalworking fluid, accompanied by a comprehensive on-site analysis and continuous support. The result: cleaner machines, longer service life, fewer additives, and a significant increase in process security – alongside simplified handling and a single metalworking fluid covering the entire production process.
HOMA Pumpenfabrik GmbH, based in Neunkirchen-Seelscheid in North Rhine-Westphalia (Germany), is an internationally operating manufacturer of pumps for industrial and wastewater technology. Founded in 1946, the family-owned company employs around 265 people and develops and produces solutions for building drainage, construction site and surface drainage, as well as municipal and industrial water disposal.
HOMA’s manufacturing process is characterized by an exceptionally high degree of flexibility. Approximately 98% of the pumps are custom-made, in some cases even starting with a batch size of just one. The technology company manufactures the bulk of the components itself – from cast iron components to drive shafts and electric motors. In total, around 4,000 different components are processed. In machining, 27 machines are in use, including turning and milling centers for large diameters of up to 600 millimeters.
In addition, sensors and automation solutions from Blaser’s sister company, Liquidtool Systems, are used to ensure the concentration of metalworking fluid.
The path to more stable processes
Initial contact between HOMA and Blaser Swisslube took place in July 2024. The metalworking fluid used up until then had been increasingly leading to challenges in manufacturing: odor issues, inconsistent service life, and tool and spindle wear had a negative impact on processes. In addition, additives and bactericides had to be added on a regular basis. The aim was therefore to find a reliable and stable metalworking fluid solution that would allow for cleaner machines, improved tool life, and greater process security, all at the same time.
Test phase under real production conditions
As is standard for Blaser Swisslube, this all began with a comprehensive on-site analysis of manufacturing processes. Based on this analysis, a three-month test run with the B-Cool MC 640 CI metalworking fluid was then initiated in February 2025, initially on a single machine. Thanks to the positive results, the solution was then quickly rolled out to other systems.
Marco Schneider, a sales representative at Blaser Swisslube, explains: “For HOMA, we were looking for a stable, universally applicable metalworking fluid that also works reliably when it comes to the demanding machining of cast iron. B-Cool MC 640 CI is characterized by high stability, long service life, and good rinsing behavior. It reliably evacuated chips, reduced residue, and supported a cleaner machine environment and good human compatibility.”
Outstanding results in manufacturing
Even early on in the test phase, indications showed that the metalworking fluid was able to achieve the intended improvements and was suitable for use across the entire manufacturing process. Oliver Lenz, Production Manager at HOMA, reports: “We had already tested a wide variety of metalworking fluids, but none impressed us right from the start as much as the Blaser product. Despite their intensive processing of cast iron, the machines are significantly cleaner, the smell is pleasant, and we no longer need any additives. Tool life has also improved. Another factor that we find particularly important is that we now have one metalworking fluid that covers all of our manufacturing processes.”
Where metalworking fluids previously needed to be changed every six to twelve months, the emulsion now remains stable over extended operating periods. At the same time, the need for refilling also decreased.
Regular support ensures process security
Blaser service technician Nikolaj Ahl is on site at HOMA once a week. He explains: “We support the customer in monitoring and optimizing processes. This ensures that the quality of the metalworking fluid remains consistent, and manufacturing processes in turn remain reliable.”
In addition, sensors and automation solutions from Blaser’s sister company, Liquidtool Systems, are used to ensure the concentration of metalworking fluid remains stable and to automate the refilling process. This increases process security further as a result, while also reducing the workload for employees.”
In the future: Plans for further automation
HOMA is planning to invest further in new machines and automation solutions. There are also plans to further expand the use of metalworking fluid automation. With stable processes, a single metalworking fluid that covers all its manufacturing needs, and the support of Blaser Swisslube, HOMA is confident in continuing this partnership.
